Artist Statment

My body of work aims to question who I am in this vessel. I am a mixed media artist with

a focus on drawing. I use red as a color of empowerment, but also to reflect the anguish I feel towards the world. I use self-portraits as a confrontation with the viewer and myself as a way to make myself visible – in a world where I don’t feel seen.

Interlocking dendritic structures symbolize my understanding and connection in this digital age. Fractal structures like nerves, roots, and branches are found in all living organisms and are life supporting functions. Yet I feel disconnected from life because of the fatigue of the dendritic digital world where information starts at one point and branches off.

This disconnection I feel results in conflict distorting my identity through the echo chambers of the technological world. Constant over-stimulation numbs me and makes me question who I am. My quest for identity is separate but interlocked with the digital world. It is explored through realism, anatomy, elements of nature, and abstraction. Through this exploration there can be peace and tranquility, but any moment madness could ensue.

I wish to capture this chaos and stream of inconsistency and let it free through my art. Letting this free becomes my release and a breath of fresh air from the absurdity of existence. Through viewing my art, I want the viewer to think about the role they play in the absurd world we live in and reflect on their own existence and morality.
